DANGLING CABLES, REMOVED BY THE CITY GOVERNMENT

Three weeks…This was the grace period given by the city government to the telecommunications companies to clean and fix their unused and tangled cables.

This is indeed one of the problems in Barangay Dominican Mirador.

“We coordinated, but there’s still no action,” said Punong Barangay Carol Domogan of Barangay Dominican Mirador, Baguio City.

Due to the lack of action from some telecommunications companies after the one-month grace period, the city government is now the one removing the cables.

“It’s a safety concern, which is why we’re stepping in,” said Daryll Kim Longid, Chief – Public Order and Safety Division (POSD).

Using ladders and pliers, the POSD manually removed some of the cables.

“We started in New Lucban, and now the removal is ongoing from the public market up to the BCPO,” Longid added.

The barangay and POSD are still asking for the cooperation of other telcos for the removal of the cables.

The ongoing clearing operation is mandated under Memorandum No. 138 Series of 2024 by the City Mayor’s Office.

The memorandum states that only cables hanging 16 inches over sidewalks and 18 inches over roads will be removed.
