A 14-year-old boy from Barangay Military Cut-off, Baguio City, nearly lost his right arm after a firecracker called plapla exploded during New Year celebrations.
According to the City Health Office, this is one of the most severe firecracker-related injuries in recent years.
This year’s nine cases are fewer than the 12 recorded last year.
Meanwhile, a 32-year-old man from Barangay San Luis Village was injured by a stray bullet.
The bullet was retrieved and reported to the Baguio City Police Office, which has vowed to investigate and hold the culprit accountable.
Last year, a 60-year-old priest in Barangay Irisan was also a victim of a stray bullet.
Based on recorded cases, six of this year’s victims were directly handling firecrackers.
The City Health Office continues to monitor any additional firecracker-related incidents in the city.
