16,000 PEOPLE, ENJOYED GIANT FRIED RICE IN BAGUIO CITY

No Filipino breakfast is complete without fried rice.

But in Baguio City, it wasn’t just a cup of fried rice served, but a giant, layered one!

This dish was presented by the Hotel and Restaurant Association of Baguio as part of their Hotel and Restaurant Association of Baguio (HRAB) Week celebration.

The fried rice came in 15 flavors, including binagoongan, de recado fried rice, paella, and more.

“Fried rice is a daily staple in Filipino meals, now their lunch is complete this morning,” says Jeff Ng, Chairman – HRAB.

The crowd was excited when the giant fried rice was revealed to the public.

It measured 28 feet in diameter and was prepared by 12 hotels and restaurants in Baguio.

1,600 kilos of rice were used to cook this gigantic dish.

The atmosphere inside the mall felt like a festival as the giant fried rice was served to the crowd.

This group of friends from Nueva Vizcaya were thrilled, knowing they had enough food for a whole day of exploring Baguio.

“It’s our first time here, but maybe next year, we’ll be back. Thank you, HRAB, for allowing us to experience this momentous event here in Baguio,” Liam Pascua, says Fried Rice Taster.

“This is what it’s like, so much food,” Wilson Ilao, Fried Rice Taster, added.

This event was HRAB’s way of showing gratitude to the public for their yearly support.

Every year, HRAB holds a free food event, but this year’s celebration was extra special as they also recognized the more than 10 million people working in the agricultural sector.

“We acknowledge our members as the important people contributing to the food security and daily needs of Filipinos, especially in terms of rice,” says Ng.

Fried rice was first served during the Sui Dynasty in China, and since then, it has become a comfort food for many.
