Amid heavy rains on the morning of January 3, a tragedy occurred along Kennon Road, specifically in Camp 5.
A teenage boy had just woken up when he heard a loud crash.
According to him, “There was a loud noise. I saw a truck crash, and then it went straight down into the ravine. It was intense.”
It was a truck carrying three men that plunged down the ravine.
The ravine where the truck fell is about 100 meters deep.
Rescue operations were challenging due to the strong water current in the river.
“It was heartbreaking, one victim was already being swept away by the water, one was trapped, and we tried to revive them. It was so deep and hard to climb down. One victim was in the water,” said one of the responders.
Skid marks from the truck could still be seen on the road before it fell.
According to initial investigations, the truck might have lost control.
PSSG Jefferson Taruc, OIC Investigator, Tuba MPS, stated, “There were skid marks, and it wasn’t going too fast, according to witnesses. They weren’t drunk, according to the doctor. They were coming from Baguio when it happened, crashing there and then going straight into the ravine.”
The three victims were rushed to the hospital, but unfortunately, two were declared dead on arrival. The lone survivor is under monitoring.
Authorities remind motorists to exercise extra caution, especially during rainy conditions.
“Drive slowly, don’t overtake, especially on slippery roads. Always check your vehicle before traveling, and don’t speed,” Taruc reminded.
This is the first recorded accident on Kennon Road for 2025.
