Around 4:00 in the morning on Sunday, January 5, CCTV footage captured a tricycle passing along Barangay Salvacion in Santo Tomas town.
Behind it, a speeding motorcycle can be seen, and moments later.
The motorcycle crashes into the rear of the tricycle.
After the collision, the tricycle veered into the opposite lane and was hit by an oncoming minivan.
The impact was so strong that the tricycle was crushed and dragged several meters, while the motorcycle rider fell to the ground.
According to PSMS Manny Villanueva, Chief Investigator of the Santo Tomas Municipal Police Station, “The impact was quite strong. The collision may have caused the deaths of the couple in the tricycle.”
The couple, Miguel Serrana, 34, and Razel Serrana, 33, were declared dead on arrival at the hospital.
The minivan driver, Darnel Penilla, 54, and the motorcycle rider, Jenny Velasco, 20, sustained injuries.
Villanueva narrated, “The motorcycle was speeding, and based on our interview with the rider, he admitted he was drunk at the time of the incident.”
The minivan driver explained that the incident happened so fast that he was unable to brake in time.
According to the police, the area is not considered accident-prone.
The families of the victims and the drivers of both the minivan and the motorcycle agreed to settle the matter privately without filing any legal complaints.
