2 gold, 2 silver medals for 2 Baguio boys to help Ph team in IFMA worlds

Clark Fatit fell to Evgenil Ponomanev of Russia in the finals of the junior 14-15 male youth -40 kilogram of the IFMA Youth World Championships 2022 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia last August 19 and settled for the silver medal. 

Ponomoev, playing under IFMA 1, scored on all judges for a 30-27 victory to claim the gold as Fatit of the country’s Team Bagsik settled for the silver medal.

The grade 9 from the Guisad Valley National High School won a gold in tandem with another Baguio boy, Edel Ali Ngina, son of local muay Thai legend Edzel, after winning in the 14-15 years old junior male mae mai muay Thai doubles earlier in the two week tournament.

The Baguio boys took home a combined two golds and two silvers with Ngina adding a gold in in the 14-15 junior male waikru (solo) but settled for the silver in the 14-15 60 kilogram category of combat after falling to his Hungarian opponent.

Ngina is a grade 10 student from the Baguio City High School.

In his Facebook wall, Fatit wrote: “In life, there is no such thing as impossible. It’s always possible!”

He added: “At 14, I’m so blessed to compete in the international level and to be given the opportunities that made stronger, tougher, braver, wiser and smarter.”

Fatit described his participation to the IFMA youth world as an “avenue to prove that I can reach my dreams and that I can be best in my sports career at (a) young age.”

He then dedicated his wins (one gold, one silver) to the people who helped him like the Philippine Sports Commission and the Muay Thai Association of the Philippines led by Pearl Managuelod, MAP-Baguio head Joseph Oloan and the Benguet State University as venue of their training.

He also thanked the local governments of Baguio and Benguet for the financial supports as well as PGen. Ric Marquez.

Among those he thanked is Team Lakay cpaches especially Southeast Asian Games double medalist Zeph Ngaya, MAP coaches Zaidi Laruan, Billy Alumno, Precious Delarmino, the elder Ngina, among others. 

The event was staged from August 9 until 2 where competitions will be in all youth weight divisions in the combat side, as well as both individual and mixed team events for wi kru and mai muay disciplines. Pigeon Lobien
