Pres. Ferdinand Marcos Jr. expressed, “My beloved fellow Filipinos, I am pleased to announce that on the occasion of the 53rd National Day of the United Arab Emirates, 220 Filipinos have been granted pardon by His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.”
This was the statement of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Monday, January 6, after His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan of the United Arab Emirates granted pardon to 220 Filipinos imprisoned in the UAE.
The pardon coincided with the celebration of the UAE’s 53rd National Day.
This means the Filipinos will be released and can return to the Philippines.
This action is a testament to the strong ties between the two nations.
PBBM stated, “We extend, of course, our heartfelt gratitude to His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, whom I also had the honor to meet, for this very compassionate gesture.”
As a Filipino, KC is delighted with the news.
“I’m happy they’ve been released and can now reunite with their families. They probably wouldn’t have been released if the negotiations hadn’t gone well,” KC Navalta.
The president expressed hope for the safe return of the pardoned Filipinos to the country, while the government is working on the necessary documents for their repatriation.
To date, a total of 363 Filipinos have been granted pardon by the UAE government.
