It was an emotional Saturday at Fort Del Pilar as 266 cadets of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) Siklab-Laya Class of 2025 officially graduated. Among them was Second Lieutenant Jesse Ticar Jr., the class valedictorian.

Ticar’s parents, Jessie and Anita, reunited with their son after four years apart. Tears filled the air as they embraced.

“I’m just so proud of him. I’m not really used to things like this, but seeing him now—it’s overwhelming,” said Anita Ticar, holding back tears.

Ticar, the youngest of three siblings, recalled how he kept his PMA entrance exam a secret.

“I didn’t really tell my mom when I took the exam,” he shared. “But when I passed, I told her and she supported me because it’s what I really wanted.”

“It’s an honor and a responsibility,” he added. “Since people have expectations, I should not only meet them but exceed them. I will stay true to what I vowed to do.”

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., who served as the guest of honor, commended the cadets for their sacrifice, resilience, and discipline.

“We all know your path was not easy,” the President said. “Four years of discipline, training, hard work—and I’m sure some nights of self-doubt. But you did not give up, and now you are here.”

PMA Superintendent Vice Admiral Caesar Bernard Valencia also thanked the parents who entrusted their children to the academy.

“As a parent myself, I share their pride,” he said. “Today, your sons and daughters are now the best version of themselves, ready to serve our maritime mission.”

President Marcos also reminded the graduates never to forget their sworn duty, wherever it may take them.

Adding a romantic twist to the ceremony, 2LT Ferdinand Macalay proposed to 2LT Remedios Briones during the graduation day. Both are from Bulacan and developed their relationship during their time at the academy.

“This was the right moment,” Macalay said. “We plan to prioritize our duty first before settling down. This proposal will be something we’ll never forget.”

From the hallowed grounds of the PMA, a new generation of military leaders now steps into service—carrying with them the values of dignity, discipline, and love for country.
