A family was injured in Baguio City after their vehicle fell into a house as instead of reversing, the driver accidentally hit the accelerator.

An SUV fell into the garden of a house in Baguio City.

The vehicle was parked at a construction site above the house when the incident occurred.

Danilo Orpila, homeowner, narrated “I was sitting here because I had just come back from outside. After 15 minutes, there was a loud crash. I thought the fence had fallen, but it turned out to be a car.”

(Naupo ako dyan kasi kakagaling ko dyan sa labas, after that, after 15 minutes ang lakas ng [kalabog] akala ko nahulog yung mga ‘diay alad’ [yung bakod], yun pala, nakita ko auto.)

A witness said “I asked someone to call the barangay captain, who then called 911 and the police.”

(Pinatawagan ko doon yung kapitan na lang, yung kapitan yung tumawag na doon sa 911 tsaka yung pulis.)

According to the Philippine National Police (PNP) investigation, human error caused the incident.

“They were about to leave their compound, but instead of reversing to maneuver, the vehicle moved forward,” said PCpt. Carlos Puguan, Station Commander of Baguio City Police Office Station 10.

(Lalabas po yata kasi sila sa compound nila pero ganon na nga po yung nangyari, naaksidente po na imbes na paatras po sana para magmaniobra, ay nagforward po yung sasakyan nila.)

They estimated the fall to be about 8 feet deep.

The driver and two minor passengers immediately got out of the vehicle.

A senior citizen passenger was assisted in getting out of the vehicle.

According to the owner of the construction site, the area was temporarily used as parking for their tenants, but they did not expect the incident to happen.

Because of this, they plan to install a fence to prevent accidents.

Puguan added, “We should always be careful when driving. Perhaps, we shouldn’t rush and should check everything before moving the vehicle.”

The four passengers of the vehicle are now recovering from various injuries and fractures.

The fallen vehicle was also promptly removed.
