43-YEAR-OLD WOMAN, INJURED AFTER HER VAN FELL OFF A CLIFF

BY: CHARLES NIKKO LIMON

The van fell and flipped over a cliff.

This was the fate of the vehicle at around 8 a.m. on February 10 in Barangay Santo Tomas School Area, Baguio City.

According to the barangay officials, the van was going uphill when the accident happened.

According to Kagawad Leo Ciano of Brgy. Sto. Tomas School Area, “They said it was parked there, then suddenly rolled back and fell.”

The van plunged approximately 10 to 15 feet.

The driver of the van was identified as a 43-year-old woman.

According to the Baguio City Police Office’s investigation, the vehicle’s brakes failed.

PMAJ. Marcy Grace Marron, Public Information Officer – Baguio City Police Office, stated, “The victim was heading toward the town proper when, while ascending in the Santo Tomas area, she lost her brakes. When she engaged them, they didn’t work, which is why the van rolled backward.”

A motorist who witnessed the incident immediately called for help, and the victim was rushed to the hospital.

Because of this, the PNP has another reminder for motorists.

“They need to check their vehicles and ensure they are in good condition. At the same time, they should be physically and mentally prepared when driving and observe road signages. We conduct checkpoints where we also give reminders to prevent accidents,” Marron added.

The driver was immediately taken to the hospital and sustained only minor injuries.

This is now the 176th road incident recorded this year.
