Some 48 athletes and sports leaders will comprise the final batch of Heroes Wall of Fame mural project which will start very soon.
Some 20 martial artists some of thrm coaches now are included in the list even as seven sports leaders including a councilor will be invested at the walls of the grandstand of the Baguio athletic bowl, the eponymous Publications and Media Works announced this week.
Artists Harold Banario, Gladys Labsan and Ged Alangui are ecpected to come back and render their talent in the undertaking where they earlier painted 46 athletes, some of them Olympians.
“I am in, “ said mixed martial artist Harold Banario as he continues his works on martial artists athletes.
Banario was responsible of painting the eight Team Lakay champions at the ground level of the sports complex.
The figures include Team Lakay founder Mark Sangiao, former ONE champions Eduard Folayang, Kevin Belingon, Harold’s brother Honorio, Geje Eustaquio and Joshua Pacio as well as former Brave bantamweight king Stephen Loman and former PXC bantamweight champion Crisanto Pitpitunge.
Banario was also responsible in bringing the faces of 10 other martial arts athletes at the walls during the latest phase that include another former Team Lakay and wushu champion Mark Eddiva, two time SouthEast Asian Games kickboxing champion and Asian Games silver medalist in wushu sanda Jean Claude Saclag.
Labsan who started working with the six athletes at the dugouts completed her works with 12 other greats that include the first and only boxing world champion from Baguio Roberto Cruz and Beijing Olympics bronze medalists Mariane Mariano and Benjie Rivera.
Alangui’s last works were of 10 athletes from wushu taolu, golf, archery, basketball and car racing, among others.
Among those to be honored are two time SEAG kickboxing champion Gina Iniong-Araos, who is also an MMA warrior under the Team Lakay colors.
Many of the athletes to be portrayed are SEAG athletes.
E-Pub is also looking at the possibility of putting basketball great and former senator Robert Jaworski in the wall. Jaworski is born here and went to Brent where he played high school volleyball under the late Fritz Muller.
E-Pub will release the list of the athletes scheduled in what it calls as Heroes Wall of Fame – The Last Push as it is still looking for sponsors to fund the project which started in October 2020 when lockdowns due to the Covid 19 pandemic was relaxed a little. Pigeon Lobien
