A “sumpak” or improvised shotgun was used in the accidental killing of a five year old girl in sitio Cauit, barangay Monggoc, Pidigan, Abra on Thursday, January 21, reports from the Police Regional Office – Cordillera showed.

The “sumpak” accidentally went off as the girl and her friends were playing with it.

Pidigan Police, who identified the victim as Glea Jane Bolante, a resident of the said barangay, said she and two other kids were playing with the gun when the accident happened.

The children were supposed to go and fetch water when they started playing with the improvised shot gun, police records show.

The victim reportedly swung the firearm on her back when the trigger was squeezed. The bullet pierced through the girl’s back instantly killing her.

The police have yet to identify the owner of the gun.

Meanwhile, the victim’s family is demanding for justice and a more thorough investigation as to the cause of her death. They see foul play as they do not believe that the girl was able to swing the said firearm, police say.
