6 DEFECTIVE WEIGHING SCALES IN BAGUIO CITY PUBLIC MARKET, CONFISCATED

Weighing scales in Baguio City Public Market need to have their seals renewed twice a year or every six months.

This is to ensure that they are not tampered with.

That’s why Janice, a vegetable vendor for five years, never forgets this requirement.

This is one of the standards of the Public Market Office.

This is also governed by Tax Ordinance Number 2000-001.

But despite this, there are still weighing scales that do not meet the standards.

In fact, they have already confiscated almost six weighing scales this October.

Recently, the city government destroyed the defective weighing scales they confiscated.

But to further intensify the campaign against defective weighing scales, the agency is providing public weighing scales.

There are now six public weighing scales in the Baguio City Public Market, but they plan to add twelve more and distribute them to other parts of the market.

The owners of tampered weighing scales may face charges for violating Republic Act 11706 or the Consumer Act of the Philippines and could face penalties of one to five years imprisonment and fines ranging from 50,000 pesos to 300,000 pesos.
