A total of 64 corn farmers from La Union formally graduated from the Farmers Field School program after 16 weeks of training on proper corn production techniques.
The training, held in partnership with the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist and the Department of Agriculture – Agricultural Training Institute Regional Field Office 1, culminated on April 16 with the awarding of certificates to the participants.
Thirty of the graduates came from the town of Balaoan, while the remaining 34 were from Aringay.
The initiative is part of the provincial government’s efforts to boost and sustain the corn industry in the province by equipping local farmers with knowledge on modern and effective farming practices.
Students and residents of Pugo, La Union can now benefit from new public facilities as local officials inaugurated the newly built Palina Elementary Stage and Covered Court.
The project was officially opened in a ceremony led by Pugo Mayor Kurt Walter Martin and La Union Governor Rafy Ortega David.
The new structures are expected to provide students with better spaces for learning and school activities.
In addition, the newly rehabilitated farm-to-market road and multi-purpose driving pavement in Barangay San Luis, Sitio Kadulayan, were also inaugurated.
These projects are seen as part of the provincial government’s continuing commitment to the welfare of Pugo residents.
Officials said the developments will improve transportation and access to markets for local farmers while enhancing the overall infrastructure in the area.
