A new mural will add color to a barangay in Baguio City

For the first time, Barangay Kabayanihan in Baguio City will have a mural and aside from being an additional attraction, this will also be the thirtieth mural painted by the group of Councilor Leandro Yangot Jr.

Father Carlu Street is one of the roads leading to the Central Business District in Baguio City.

Previously, this road was narrow for pedestrians.

According to Kagawad Eduardo Mangahas, “Before, this was a bottleneck, especially during school days… it’s now a bit wider.”

(Dati kasi bottleneck ‘to. ‘Pag mga panahon ngh mga estudyante sa may pasok…mas lumuwag ng kaonti.)

But after the road widening in the area in 2022, it was not only a great relief for motorists and pedestrians.

It also paved the way for barangay kabayanihan to have their first-ever mural.

“From the word ‘bayanihan,’ we would like to depict the bayanihan spirit, which is one of our moving advocacies,” says Punong Barangay Eladio Ortenero.

(From the word ‘bayanihan’ so we eould like to depict the bayanihan spirit na isa sa mga moving…mga advocacies natin.)

It spans approximately 100 meters, and they aim to showcase the story of the barangay through it.

They are partnering with Baguio City Councilor Leandro Yangot.

Councilor Leandro Yangot Jr. mentioned, “This collaboration is done… on the importance of creativity.”

But more than anything, this mural is special to him.

This is the 30th mural they have painted together with other artists in the city.

This is a big deal, especially since they aim to complete it by December.

“I cannot describe the feeling. We’re on cloud nine because… earlier than scheduled,” Yangot added.

He added that this also shows the strong support for their goal to beautify the city and make it the Mural Capital of the Philippines.

The mural will also feature two tourist icons of their barangay.

These are the Baguio Cathedral and Session Road.

Aside from being an attraction, this is also significant in preserving the history of the barangay.
