The Provincial Government of Abra and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency – Abra in collaboration with government agencies have started a series of lecture on the Balay Silangan project in Abra.

In partnership with the Departments of Social Welfare Development, Trade and Industry, Labor and Employment and Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, the lecture series is the first step for the local government unit in order to establish their own Balay Silangan drug reformation center.

Four Balay Silangan has been established in Abra, while 23 more towns are expected to put up their own. Executive Order JN – 02 signed by Gov. Jocelyn Bernos earlier this year mandates the establishment of drug reformation centers in all municipalities of the province.

A Balay Silangan wil serve as a shelter that provides intervention and training to help in the rehabilitation of drug offenders, PDEA agents told staff of the Tineg local government unit, during the lecture stop at said town Wednesday. Also present during the lecture are barangay captains and officials as well as Sangguniang Kabataan members.

The municipalities of Bucay, Danglas, Tayum, and Daguioman have established their Balay Silangan centers that aid former drug dependents to reintegrate themselves to society.

The PDEA has scheduled lectures in other municipalities in the next few days.
