In July last year, Zed’s child was rushed to the hospital after experiencing a nosebleed along with a high fever.
After several tests, it was confirmed that his child was positive for dengue.
His child eventually recovered.
However, a few months later, he was the one who contracted dengue.
Since then, they have taken extra precautions to avoid getting sick again.
From January to the present, the Department of Health Cordillera has recorded 491 confirmed dengue cases.
Fifty-six percent of these cases required hospitalization.
Among them, one person has died.
Although this is lower than last year’s 605 cases, Baguio City has seen an increase, now reporting 116 cases compared to 97 in 2024.
Because of this, some residents, like Nanay Alegria, can’t help but worry.
She now makes her grandchild wear jackets and long socks for protection.
The City Health Services Office continues to remind the public about its “Denguerra” campaign in every barangay.
For now, authorities are reminding the public to follow the “4S” strategy against dengue: Search and destroy mosquito breeding sites, Self-protection, Seek early consultation, and Support fogging and spraying when necessary.
