STA. MARCELA, Apayao – The Department of Education Cordillera announced here Wednesday that Apayao will host the 2024 Cordillera Administrative Region Athletic Association sports meet.
“We are ready,” cried Gov. Elias Bulut, Jr. and echoed by the four of seven municipal mayors during the Kapihan with DepEd at the Clubhouse here.
“We will just wait for the formal communication,” said DepEd Cordillera director Estela Carino.
Bulut said that Apayao has the facilities to host the annual meet which it last hosted in 2019 and where it finished third.
Last April, Bulut offered Apayao as host of the event when Baguio officials vacillated in hosting the event which it was supposed to do in 2020 but then the pandemic came and Luzon was declared under total lockdown.
Baguio mayor Benjamin Magaling required DepEd Cordillera to assure safety of the student athletes, their coaches and supporters to which Carino did, thus the event was staged from April 29 to May 1 where Apayao landed a record high second.
Apayao hosted the basketball and volleyball games the other week aa DepEd acceded to the request of coaches, players and even parents of athletes in the team events.
Carino assured that team events will be included in the games next year as holding it separate from the individual events is costlier. Pigeon Lobien
