For many OFWs, getting sick while working abroad is a significant challenge.
To ensure their welfare, having reliable medical support is crucial.
On December 10, the groundbreaking ceremony was held in San Fernando, Pampanga, for the Bagong Pilipinas Cancer Care Center.
This will be the first and only specialized medical institution in the Philippines offering comprehensive services exclusively for OFWs and their families.
“This stands as a testament to our commitment to care for the health and dignity of our OFWs and their families,” PBBM stated.
The center will offer services like laboratory tests, radiology, diagnostic imaging, outpatient consultations, inpatient admissions, minor surgeries, and urgent care for OFWs.
Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac, Migrant Workers of the Philippines, mentioned, “Our OFWs and their families have contributed so much in building the nation. This will provide them with free, accessible, and world-class care.”
The cancer center will accommodate up to 64 patients for various medical services.
According to Pamapanga Vice Governor Lilia Pineda, “This cancer center will be a big help in addressing the needs of our OFWs.”
“This cancer center will be a tremendous help not just for Kapampangans but also for OFWs and their families,” Cacdac added.
Construction of the facility is expected to begin in January 2025 and finish by November 2025.
It will be operational for OFWs by 2026.
Aside from this, two other cancer centers in the Philippines have been established, the UP-PGHL Cancer Center in Manila and the Philippine Cancer Center in Quezon City.
