Baguio City athletes once again brought pride to the local sports community after collecting a total of 175 medals in the recently concluded Batang Pinoy 2025 games.
After nearly a week of intense competition among young athletes nationwide, Baguio emerged as the top-performing local government unit.
Based on partial and unofficial results, Baguio secured 67 gold medals, 51 silver and 57 bronze.
Pasig City followed with 153 medals, while Manila earned 111.
Davao City and Quezon City completed the top five.
Among the gold medalists was Grade 9 student Charlyz Faith Agudo of Baguio City National High School, who competed in wushu taolu for the third time. “It felt like a roller coaster,” she said conversationally, explaining the pressure she experienced a week before the competition.
She added that staying focused is key, especially when distractions surround the venue.
Another Baguio City National High School student, wushu sanda athlete Jhasmin de Vera, secured a bronze medal, her second since joining Batang Pinoy.
She said earning the medal was challenging, but was satisfied to represent both her school and her city.
Wushu coach Daniel Paractac expressed pride in their disciplined training routine.
He explained that consistent practice often reflects in their medal standings.
Around half of the school’s wushu athletes earned medals this year.
Mayor Benjamin Magalong credited the city’s strong performance in combative sports, while noting the need to improve weaker categories.
He emphasized that enhancing vulnerable areas remains essential for continued dominance.
As of now, athletes are preparing early for next year’s tournament while the city awaits the official final tally.
Recognition ceremonies are expected for those who brought honor to Baguio.
