Baguio-born Gold Medalist at WCOPA, Dedicates Win to Family

The Philippines once again brought home a gold medal from the prestigious World Championship of Performing Arts last month, thanks to a singer and rapper from Baguio.

With his words and moves, 20-year-old Aiken, a native of Baguio, commands the stage.

He says that singing runs in their family.

“My first competition that was televised…I also won there,” says Aiken Ramos, Singer-Performer.

(Ang first competition ko na natelevise…nanalo din po ako doon.)

But no matter the genre, he can perform it all.

He once again showcased his singing prowess to the world.

This was after he brought home a gold medal in rap at the prestigious World Championship of Performing Arts from June 25 to July 6.

“WCOPA which was held in Long Beach, California, and I represented the Philippines. I didn’t expect it because I won in rap; I’m really a singer…I’m thankful that we won in rap,” Ramos added.

(WCOPA which was held in Long Beach, California, and I represented the Philippines. ‘di ko nga din po ineexpect kasi yung pagkakapanalo ko po is rap kasi singer po talaga ako…thankful ako na nakapanalo po tayo sa rap.)

According to Jeff Coronado, Aiken’s coach, “Prior to the WCOPA competition last July, I prepared them. I had one-on-one sessions with them…I recommended he continue.”

Being a student, he admits one of the biggest challenges is balancing his studies and singing.

“I also work part-time. I do my best to find the drive to do both because if you don’t enjoy what you’re doing, you’ll lose motivation,” Ramos narrated.

(Nagpapart time din po ako ang ginagawa ko po na best is tinatry ko po na magkaroon ng drive para gawin yung mga yun kasi kung ayaw mo yung ginagawa mo parang tatamarin ka e.)

As he continues to pursue a path in the performing arts, he carries with him dreams for his family.

“My inspiration is the future I want to achieve and my family, which is very near in the future,” Ramos added.

(Inspiration ko is yung fture na gusto kong marating and sa pamilya ko very near in the future.)

Currently, he is preparing to compete in more national competitions.
