Since the City Health Services Office began monitoring firecracker-related incidents, they’ve recorded three cases admitted to Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center.
The first case was recorded on December 22 when a 14-year-old boy suffered an eye injury due to “Boga.”
The second case involved a 9-year-old girl who injured her thumb with a 5-star firecracker.
The third case was a 10-year-old boy who sustained injuries to his abdomen and hand due to “Boga.”
Despite the firecracker ban ordinance, some parents remain vigilant.
To prevent such incidents, the Baguio City Police Office and Public Order and Safety Division continue patrolling and confiscating firecrackers, in accordance with Ordinance No. 53, Series of 2009, or the Firecracker Ban.
Those caught selling, using, or distributing illegal firecrackers face a fine of 2,000 pesos for the first offense, 3,000 pesos for the second offense, and 5,000 pesos or imprisonment of up to one month for subsequent offenses.
Confiscated items include “Kwitis,” “Sky Rocket,” and “Boga.”
All hospitals in the city are on alert for additional cases during the holiday season.
