As the Holy Week begins, tourists have started flocking to Baguio City, known as the summer capital of the Philippines.
The influx of visitors is seen as a chance to escape the scorching heat of the ongoing dry season.
Among the tourists are Liza and Rita, both from Cavite, who are eager to enjoy the cooler weather in Baguio.
Liza shared that the weather in the city is much cooler compared to the heat in Cavite, while Rita emphasized how adapting to changes, like the restrictions during Holy Week, is part of their millennial lifestyle.
The Gardo family, who hails from Bulacan, also chose Baguio for their Holy Week reflection.
Christian Gardo explained that the cooler temperature in the city made it the perfect destination for the Lenten season.
Mines View Park, one of the top attractions in the city, has been filled with tourists taking photos in traditional Cordilleran attire, adding to the unique cultural experience.
Rey and Lou, visitors from Novaliches, were impressed by the cheerful atmosphere in the area, especially the pleasant weather, in contrast to the heat they experience in their home region.
While some tourists are exploring the city, others, like the Cagnaan family, have already traveled further to La Union.
Tita Cagnaan mentioned that the less crowded roads now offer a more pleasant journey.
Local terminal masters reported that passenger arrivals have been gradual but expect a significant increase by Maundy Thursday.
Meanwhile, Baguio’s accommodation establishments are nearing full capacity, with occupancy rates at 80-90%.
According to Andrew Pinero, spokesperson of the Hotel and Restaurant Association of Baguio, this influx of tourists is positive for the local economy.
City Tourism Office estimates suggest that up to 150,000 tourists may visit Baguio this Holy Week.
