The acting city librarian has been recognized as one of the country’s top public librarian for 2021.
Easter Wahayna-Pablo, Librarian III of the Baguio City Public Library won the ikalawang gantimala in the Gawad Parangal sa Natatanging Prupesyunal na Tagapangasiwa ng Pampublikong Aklatan under the Professional Category conferred by the National Library of the Philippines and The Asia Foundation Foundation.
The top prize went to Cagayan Provincial Learning Resource Centfer Librarian IV Michael Pinto, while Soledad Fabian took third place. She is the Librarian IV of Antipolo City Library.
With the award, Pablo’s work as a librarian is recognized as she “have gone above and beyond their work in the community through their dedication, and hard work as a manifestation of their outstanding public service contribution.
Pablo is an alumna of Saint Louis University where she finished her degree in education and went on to place fourth in the board exams in 1999. She took her Masters in Library and Information at SLU where she graduated cum laude and a Master in Public Administration at the Benguet State University.
Pablo is the acting head of the Baguio City Public Library which is expected to undergo transformation with the approval of the library ordinance passed earlier this year.
With its passage, the city library is expected to be given upgrade, not just physical but also the provision of services that may extend the regular days and hours of operation to provide better service to the community.
The contents of the library is expected to be upgraded also and provide services attuned to the needs of the community.
