During the Baguio Leaders Forum, Vice Mayor Faustino Olowan and Councilor Mylen Yaranon, both vying for the vice mayor, had a heated exchange as they discussed their political positions and the issues facing the city.
The forum, which aims to provide candidates with an opportunity to present their platforms to voters, became intense when the two candidates debated the state of the city council.
Yaranon criticized the current city council’s chaotic nature, while Olowan pointed to the flawed city charter as the root cause of the issue.
The debate also touched on other significant issues such as the development of the city market and traffic congestion.
While Olowan emphasized that the development of the city market depends on the city council, Yaranon stressed the need for a traffic plan to address congestion.
Despite the tensions during the forum, the candidates shook hands afterward, with both acknowledging that the questions raised were valid.
The forum was organized by the Hotel and Restaurant Association of Baguio, Baguio Correspondents and Broadcasters Club, and the Philippine Information Agency.
The theme for this year is “True Change is in Your Hands.”
