Barangay Peace-keeping Action Teams, underdoes Orientation Training

Over 300 Barangay Peacekeeping Action Teams (BPAT) members from thirty barangays in Mangaldan participated in orientation training on Wednesday, July 17, at the Macario Ydia Development Center (MYDC).

The training was conducted by the Mangaldan Philippine National Police (PNP) and Mangaldan Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), led by PCOL. Roldan Cabatan, Mangaldan Chief of Police and FINSP.

Armando Ramos, Municipal Fire Marshal, in collaboration with the Local Government of Mangaldan through the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) headed by Rodolfo Corla, LDRRMO IV.

Most of the BPAT members who actively attended the training were Barangay Tanod and members of the Lupong Tagapamayapa in the barangays.

In a message delivered by Samuel Soriano, Community Affairs Officer Designate, on behalf of Mayor Bona Fe De Vera-Parayno, the mayor extended her warm recognition to all BPAT members who actively maintain order and peace in their respective barangays.

The mayor emphasized that the BPAT members would be even more commendable if they possess adequate knowledge of the law and their respective responsibilities.

The mayor also aimed to ensure that the BPAT members are recognized and remain respectable as the first line of defense in the barangays.

In addition to crime prevention, Corla highlighted the importance of BPAT members having knowledge of disaster response to prepare for unexpected calamities and protect the citizens within the area of responsibility.

In response, the MDRRMO shared knowledge on emergency response, preparedness, and Basic Life Support Training.

PLTCOL. Cabatan explained the importance and purpose of creating BPATs, which support the Mangaldan PNP in combating various types of crimes in the community as part of the agency’s Project Tanggol.

PMaj. Atty. Jerale Carerra, Legal Office of the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office, lectured on the Barangay Justice System, including steps in decision-making and hearing complaints or cases at the barangay level.

PSSg Andrew Velasco shared standards for creating blotter reports and explained the concepts of warrantless arrest and citizen’s arrest.

PCMS Jonathan Ronald Ferreria and PSSg Kenneth Natavio also shared their knowledge on barangay peacekeeping.

SFO3 Jovenir Callanta and FO2 Raffy Zarate from the Mangaldan BFP taught fire safety tips to the participants, including the proper response during fires.

Besides providing additional knowledge to the participants, the BPAT Orientation Training aimed to strengthen the peace and order initiative in the town, ensure quick response, and improve the visibility of interconnected government agencies during calamities or disasters.
