The Mankayan community members came together to repair a section of the Busan–Colalo road on January 7, highlighting community initiative amid delays in government funding for permanent road rehabilitation.
Super Typhoon Uwan struck Luzon last year on November 10, leaving widespread damage across Benguet province, including multiple landslides that rendered several roads impassable.
To address the problem, the residents and miners collaborated to construct a riprap structure to stabilize the collapsed section of the Busan-Colalo road.
Despite significant progress, the road remains closed to traffic as construction continues.
According to Mankayan Mayor Cezar Pasiwen, the local government unit has already coordinated with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to request funding, but no funds have been released as of this time.
The DPWH Benguet 2nd District has yet to issue an official statement.
