BENECO, ASSURES CONTINUOUS ELECTRICITY SUPPLY THIS SUMMER

BY: VANESSA BUGTONG

Every month, Nanay Emilyn’s household pays around 5,000 to 6,000 pesos for electricity.

However, the 70-peso increase in their monthly bill was a huge burden for them.

With the summer season approaching, they are already expecting their electricity bill to rise.

Some consumers are also worried about the possibility of power shortages due to increased demand. This is what Benguet Electric Cooperative aims to address.

Beneco signed an Emergency Power Supply Agreement today, February 25, with GNPower Dinginin Limited Company.

This follows the expiration of Beneco’s emergency power supply agreement with Limay Power Incorporated.

It is also an effect of the cooperative’s 20-year contract with Team Philippine Energy Corporation coming to an end.

Under the new agreement, GNPower Dinginin Limited Company guarantees a continuous power supply for Beneco even during peak demand.

The agreement will last for five months.

Meanwhile, the cooperative is still waiting for the approval of a long-term power supply agreement under the NEA-Luzon EECA CSP.

GNPower Limited Company assures that the 73-megawatt supply will continue until July 25 this year.

Meanwhile, Beneco aims to lower electricity rates for consumers, especially this summer.

However, until this is realized, electricity rates are set to increase for March 2025 billing.

Beneco will add 3 centavos per kilowatt-hour due to the increase in the Feed-in Tariff Allowance collected by the National Transmission Corporation.

This charge is paid by consumers for renewable energy plants from the previous year.
