Abra Gov. Ma. Jocelyn Bernos condoled with the Aquino clan with the death of former president Benigno Aquino III who she thanked for the help during his presidency that led to the progress of her province.
Bernos wrote on her Facebook wall on June 24, after the president died: “Sad day… I was proud member of the 15th and 16th Congress during PNoy’s time… so long, My President! Thank you for your service with integrity and dedication.”
Bernos was elected congressman of Abra in 2010 when Aquino was elected 15th president of the Philippines. She served for two more terms until her election as governor in 2019.
Earlier this year, Bernos greeted through private message the former president on his 61st birthday last February 8.
“Happy birthday Mr. President! May this day be filled with full of gratitude for what you did for the whole country,…” Bernos wrote the president.
She added: “for the peace and prosperity of the country that we are all enjoying now. Thank you for the advocacy of daang matuwid. Thank you for all the progress you gave for the province of Abra.”
The former deputy speaker of the House of Representative responded: “Thank you Joy.”
Early June 24, a maid found Aquino unconscious on his recliner at his house in West Triangle, Quezon City. He was rushed to the Capitol Medical Center in Diliman where he was pronounced dead at 6:30AM.
Doctors say that cause of death was renal disease, secondary to diabetes. He was buried on June 26 at the Manila Memorial Park in Paranaque beside his parents: former senator Benigno, Jr. and the former president, Corazon.
