Buguias Mayor wants karate in BBEAL

BUGUIAS, Benguet – Mayor Ruben Tinda-an is hoping that karate be included in the Baguio-Benguet Educational Athletic League.

With Benguet State University as host when it opens on October 28, Tinda-an is hoping that it be one of the sporting events and a regular soon as one of the martial arts.

Tinda-an, who holds a sixth dan black belt in karate, said that many youngsters are into karate.

A medal sport, Tinda-an, who still competes in the 50 years and older category, said that karate could help develop players for national and international competitions.

“Martial arts is very popular now and most of the medal earners are from the Cordilleras,” said the mayor, who stepped down from his seat to give way to the senior citizen mayor of the day.

“I will be writing the president (BSU president Felipe Comila) and the technical committee led by the school sports director, Frael Aquino.

The BBEAL will open on October 28 at the BSU gym where competitions start for members Pines City College, Baguio College of Technology, Baguio Central University, Cordillera Career Development College, Philippine Military Academy, University 9f the Philippines – Baguio, University of the Cordilleras, University of Baguio and Saint Louis University.
