Mushrooms are widely known as a healthy food, being low in calories, high in protein, and rich in vitamins and minerals.
However, some people reportedly experience severe migraines after consuming them.
The culprit behind this is tyramine, a naturally occurring chemical found in certain foods, including mushrooms.
Tyramine helps regulate blood pressure, but excessive amounts can affect blood vessels in the brain, potentially triggering migraines in individuals sensitive to it.
Other foods high in tyramine include fermented products, alcohol, coffee, cheese, and processed meats.
According to the American Migraine Foundation, researchers continue to study how diet impacts migraines.
Meanwhile, a study by Everyday Health Incorporated suggests that only excessive mushroom consumption may lead to migraines.
Aside from migraines, some people may also have allergic reactions to mushrooms, causing dizziness, vomiting, or breathing difficulties.
Experts advise eating mushrooms in moderation to avoid potential health risks.
