CANDIDATES FOR THE 2025 ELECTIONS IN BAGUIO CITY, INCREASE ON THE THIRD DAY OF COC FILING

On October 1, the COMELEC Baguio began accepting Certificates of Candidacy (COC) from candidates for the May 2025 midterm elections.

Former Baguio City Congressman Atty. Nicasio Aliping Jr. was the first to file for congressman again.

Although he does not have a party affiliation, he is still confident to run.

He was accompanied by his friends and supporters during the filing of his COC.

On the first day, incumbent councilors Peter Fianza and Norma Ferrer Benuyo also filed their COCs to run for councilor.

Owen Jacques Demoni also joined the filing of his COC to run for congressman.

However, last October 2, the Baguio Convention Center was quiet, with no one filing their COCs.

Today, the silence was broken by the filing of the group Makabaguio Tayo, led by Soledad Go, the wife of Baguio City Congressman Mark Go.

Accompanying her were their candidates for the city council, including current councilor Atty. Betty Lourdes Tabanda, former councilors Joel Alangsab and Elaine Sembrano, veteran journalist Eddie Carta, and current barangay councilor of Azcko, Standford Ang.

The group’s goal is to address the needs and interests of the city’s residents.

The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) assured that they are prepared for the influx of additional COC filers in the coming days.

As of yesterday, October 3, three have filed for congressman in the city, while no one has filed for mayor or vice mayor. Six have filed their candidacies for councilor.

An influx of additional COC filers is expected tomorrow, Friday, and on the upcoming Monday and Tuesday.
