The Cordillera Administrative Region Athletic Association (CARAA) Regional Meet officially started on Sunday, February 23, at Wangal Sports Complex in La Trinidad, Benguet.
Athletes from various provinces in the region paraded during the opening ceremony.
This year, Benguet is hosting the event and proudly introduced the first-ever Benguet Aquatic Center, which will be used by swimmers competing in CARAA.
Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary Sonny Angara was the guest of honor at the opening program.
In his speech, he encouraged the athletes to showcase their skills and courage in various competitions.
The DepEd Secretary also urged students to explore more sports to represent the region in the Palarong Pambansa, which will be held in Ilocos Norte in May.
In the latest medal tally from DepEd Cordillera, Baguio City remains in the lead with 27 gold, 13 silver, and 12 bronze medals. Benguet follows in second place with 10 gold, 12 silver, and 3 bronze.
Apayao ranks third with 4 gold, 2 silver, and 7 bronze medals, while Abra holds fourth place with 3 gold, 3 silver, and 4 bronze medals.
The games will continue from February 24 to February 28.
