CCTV, CAPTURES SIBLINGS STEALING FROM STORE; TAXI, NEARLY TARGETED

BY: ANGELICA ARQUERO

Two alleged siblings were caught on CCTV stealing from a store in Barangay East Quirino Hill, Baguio City early morning on May 20.

The same individuals also attempted to break into a parked taxi.

At around 5:40 AM, security footage showed two motorcycles arriving at a covered court.

Their riders appeared to be surveying the area.

When the coast seemed clear, they approached a parked taxi and tried to lower its windows, but failed.

They then turned their attention to a nearby store.

Breaking the lock on the gate, they forced their way inside and stole frozen goods and ice cream, placing them in an eco bag.

“It’s the usual feeling of someone who just got robbed, confused and stressed,” said Marie, the store owner.

She added, “One of them has been a problem here for a while. When I try to confront his relatives, they get angry instead. They even told me to report him to the police because that’s their job.”

Barangay officials confirmed the two suspects are residents of the same community.

Barangay Captain Joel Bangloy said, “Allegedly, these two have a history of stealing from their neighbors’ stores. That morning, they also tried to open a parked taxi nearby.”

Bangloy further revealed, “They’ve only been living here for about a month. They came from another barangay, where they already had existing cases. We even had to ask them to leave because they weren’t paying rent and had issues there too.”

Store vendor Maria Ellaine shared her concern about the incident.

“It’s disappointing. We all know each other here, and thefts like this don’t normally happen. It’s alarming that the new residents are already doing this,” she said.

She added, “Now we’re extra careful when closing the store. Since we’re just downstairs, we make sure we can hear if anything happens.”

Barangay authorities continue to patrol the area from 9 p.m. to 11 PM.

The incident has been reported to Baguio City Police Station 2, though they have declined to comment for now as the investigation is still ongoing.
