Narvacan, Ilocos Sur and League of Municipalities in the Philippines (LMP) National President Luis “Chavit” Crisologo Singson formally backed out from the vice-gubernatorial race in Ilocos Sur Monday morning at the Commision on Election (Comelec) office in Vigan City.

The withdrawal of the longtime political kingpin rendered the vice-gubernatorial battle uncontested for his son, incumbent Ilocos Sur Governor Ryan.

Chavit amidst the rainy weather went to the Comelec to signify his withdrawal which was witnessed by his son Ryan together and wife Patricia “Patch” Angelique Marie Savellano Singson, who also withdrew from the gubernatorial race in favor of Chavit’s younger brother incumbent Vice gov. Jerimias who will be the province’s uncontested gubernatorial bet.

Patch officially signified her withdrawal right after her father-in-law Chavit officially withdrew.

According to Jerry Singson, Chavit’s decision for giving way for his son’s bid is for the sake of their family and the unity of the people of Ilocos Sur. He said, Chavit had always been willing to set aside his personal ambitions and put first how to ensure that peace reigns in his family and the plight of every Ilocos Sur resident will be prioritized.

Monday’s twist in the Ilocos Sur May 2022 elections has further hiked uncontested posts. At the end of the filing of COCs Friday, 10 mayoral posts in the province was uncontested and 13 vice mayoral posts without a contest while the second congressional district will eventually remain in the hands of incumbent lawmaker Grace Kristine Singson-Meehan.
