City’s top wushu taolu team big winner in Amazing martial arts online tourney

Accent Wushu Team dominated the 2021 Amazing Freestyle Performance Martial Arts National Online Championships December 27 last year winning two gold and three silver medals.

The city’s top wushu team took the group performance gold topping Sablan National High School Kafagway Eagles.

Accent received PhP5,000 and a certificate of achievement in topping the competitions, while the Sablan team mentored by Jay Olod took home PHP4,000 for their effort in the first online competitions for martial arts forms.

Accent’s Ghiel Rhaisa Figueras went home with the weapons form in the female category besting Sablan’s Jamaica Dawat who settled for the silver medal. Figueras took home PhP4,000 for her efforts while the Eagle Dawat was PhP3,000 the richer.

In the men’s side, Jovan Medallo of TrickStriker Action Academy from Cebu Province was the champion and received PhP3,000 for his effort, while Accent’s Jose Angelo Delos Trinos finished second and with it is PhP2,000 in cash prize.

Mikey Tiban of Kafagway MMA of Benguet was adjudged third and won PhP1,000.

In the bare hand forms female division, Zyra Bon-as of Max Fushion Fighters Camp also of Baguio City was the top winner and received PhP3,000 as a reward.

Batang Pinoy 2019 triple gold winner Aleca Dumseng, also of Accent, took second place and PhP2,000, while SNHS student Reshie Claire Bagni took the bronze medal and the PhP1,000 cash prize.

In the mal side, Zebedee De Leon of Phil. Kamao MMA Association, Caloocan City, edged another Accent player, Ranyag Quitasol. The son of journalist parents – Aldwin and Kimberly Quitasol, the latter of Philippine Daily Inquirer, took home PhP2,000 for his effort.

The bronze medal went to the Juan Pablo Basilio of Elorde Gym Ortigas in Pasig Citywho pocketed PhP1,000 as incentive.

The event was organized by two time Southeast Asian Games gold medalist in wushu sanda and Muay Thaui Waikru Jearome Calica, Jay Olod and John Philip Bacani with former Philippine wushu sanda coach Michael Humiding, silver medal winner of the 4th Asian Wushu Championship, the first Filipino to do so.
