At first glance, you might think you’re looking at a screen.
But don’t be deceived, this is the handwashing corner inside the public restroom at Baguio Botanical Garden.
It overlooks beautiful plants and scenic views.
Inside, the area is bright, the floors are dry, and the facilities are clean.
Regular cleaning of the facility ensures its upkeep.
Meanwhile, at a public restroom in a five-star mountain resort, the hand dryer features UV lights, and there is a designated area for comfortably changing a baby’s diaper.
The toilets are also automatic, offering multiple functions at the push of a button.
These features are essential for maintaining the cleanliness of public restrooms, an important aspect for tourists.
The cleanliness and quality of restrooms in certain tourist spots in the city earned recognition at the ASEAN Tourism Standard Awards in Johor, Malaysia, last Monday, January 20.
This symbolizes the importance placed on cleanliness, sanitation, and more.
Safety, accessibility, cleanliness, and sustainability, these are just some of the criteria for the ASEAN Public Toilet Award.
Facilities like the Botanical Garden are now championing these standards.
Under the ASEAN Public Toilet Standard, public restrooms must have clear signage and be easy to locate.
They must also provide proper indicators for male and female restrooms, standardized wastewater management, access for PWDs and the elderly, adequate ventilation, and more.
Tourism establishments, particularly transport terminals, are encouraged to adopt these standards.
The ASEAN Public Toilet Standard is part of the ASEAN Tourism Strategic Plan 2011-2015, which aims to develop and implement tourism service standards to recognize ASEAN countries as a quality single destination.
