Almost everyone frequently gets information from TikTok, one of the most popular social media apps today.
Since TikTok features shorter videos, many finds it convenient but also admits that sometimes, it’s hard to determine whether the information is true or not.
Whenever we encounters misleading or malicious videos, they make sure to report them.
To fight the spread of false information ahead of the upcoming elections, COMELEC and TikTok have signed an agreement to combat fake news and disinformation.
Through this partnership, the verification of election-related information is expected to be faster and more efficient.
COMELEC is confident that this partnership will protect voters’ rights by ensuring they receive accurate information on TikTok.
Community reports will also play a crucial role in detecting and removing fake news and misinformation from the platform.
Currently, TikTok has an estimated 49 million users in the Philippines.
COMELEC hopes that more social media platforms will collaborate with them in ensuring truthful and transparent elections in 2025.
