COMELEC, TO MONITOR THE ONLINE CAMPAIGNS OF CANDIDATES FOR THE UPCOMING 2025 MIDTERM ELECTIONS

It’s election season again next year.

And some candidates are once again shifting their attention to campaigning.

For those running for senator and party-list positions, they have 90 days to campaign.

This will begin on February 11 until May 10 next year.

Meanwhile, local candidates will have 45 days to campaign, starting on March 28 until May 10.

But even before the official election campaign period, some candidates are already seemingly campaigning.

Most of them are doing it on social media.

For Rachelle, she agrees with what some candidates are doing.

But isn’t this early campaigning?

While Commision on Elections (COMELEC), under COMELEC Resolution 11064, approves the use of digital campaigns, all online platforms must be registered with COMELEC.

The agency added that these individuals are not yet official candidates.

But aside from this, COMELEC will also monitor the use of AI and other digital programs used to discredit fellow candidates.

According to Gian Ines, Founding Chairman of San Beda University’s Political Science Department and Political Analyst, it’s essential for the public to remain discerning about what they see on social media.

COMELEC reminds everyone that the deadline for candidate registration of their online platforms is until December 13, 2024.

This includes their social media accounts and pages, websites, podcasts, blogs, vlogs, and others.
