A couple lost their lives after their motorcycle was hit by an SUV along the Ilocos Norte-Abra Road in Barangay Bungcag, Dingras, on the night of March 18.
According to the police, the SUV was traveling west when it collided with a locally known makeshift tricycle called a kurong-kurong. Due to the impact, the SUV swerved into the opposite lane, hitting the couple’s oncoming motorcycle.
“The driver of the SUV was following a kurong-kurong when it hit the tricycle. After the first collision, the SUV veered into the opposite lane and crashed into the couple’s motorcycle,” said Police Major Norman Pentang, chief of Dingras Municipal Police Station.
The four passengers of the kurong-kurong sustained minor injuries, while the couple suffered severe wounds and were rushed to the hospital, where they were declared dead on arrival.
Authorities identified the SUV driver as a 21-year-old man. While tests showed he was not under the influence of alcohol, he has been charged with reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicide, multiple injuries, and damage to property. Police continue to investigate the full circumstances of the incident.
