DAMAGES LEFT BY TYPHOON JULIAN IN THE AGRICULTURAL SECTOR OF ILOCOS NORTE, REACHED OVER 800 MILLION PESOS

A footage was taken during the heavy rains brought by Super Typhoon Julian.ย ย 

In the video, you can see the rushing water at Pinsal Falls in Barangay Babaliasiaon in Santa Maria, Ilocos Sur.ย ย 

Some of the floating cottages were left behind and could not be saved due to the sudden surge of water, While others tried to save them.ย ย 

“We saw the floating cottages, some rafts flipped over because of the strong water current,โ€ says Punong Barangayย  Anjong Dasalla, Barangay Baballasiaon, Sta. Maria, Ilocos Sur.

In the town of Bantay, the water level in the Abra River has slowly receded.ย ย 

This is due to the weakening of the rains in the province.

In Vintar, Ilocos Norte, some roads are impassable due to landslides, and this includes Barangobong Bridge in Barangay Dipalat.

Thick mud blocked the boundary between Barangay Malampa and Manarang, this area is also closed to motorists.ย ย 

Floodwaters up to knee level were experienced yesterday at Baay Junction in Batac City, Ilocos Norte.

Authorities have begun clearing operations on clogged water pathways.ย ย 

Authorities also evacuated this senior citizen using plastic tubs, this was due to the waist-deep floods.ย ย 

Even motorcycles were loaded onto fire trucks.

Around 2,000 individuals were evacuated yesterday in Laoag City.

According to Dr. Melin Manuel, Head of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) Laoag, “The water is receding now, and Laoag City is under signal number 1, with an orange rainfall warning.”ย ย 

The individuals evacuated yesterday have already returned home.ย ย 

Currently, the damages left by Typhoon Julian in the agricultural sector of Ilocos Norte have reached over 85 million pesos, with an additional 385,000 pesos in livestock damages.ย ย 

There have been two casualties in the province, while one individual is missing in the town of Paoay.ย ย 

Due to the typhoonโ€™s destruction, Governor Matthew Marcos Manotoc has declared a state of calamity in the entire province through Provincial Resolution No. 341-2024.ย ย 

The governor has also been going around to provide aid to the affected residents.ย ย
