Tabuk City mayor Darwin C. Estrañero handed over PhP1.5 million in cash to the Schools Division Office as support to all teaching and non-teaching personnel last Thursday.

The cash hand out was a promise the mayor made to teaching and non-teaching personnel of SDO – Tabuk in 2019 shortly after assuming office.

The amount was a request by the mayor, and which councilors Eduardo Sacayle and Henry Tubban, chair of the Sangguniang Panglungsod committee on education, responded with crafting a corresponding ordinance that was approved, wherein the city will include in its annual budget the amount for SDO – Tabuk staff.

The said ordinance was supposed to be approved not later than August 2020 but then the Covid-19 pandemic struck setting aside the release of the fund.

It was only in September of last year when the ordinance was transmitted to Estranero’s office but then it was too late for its inclusion in the city’s 2021 annual budget.

With its approval, the SDO-Tabuk staff were able to receive monthly assistance of PhP500 and was supposed to be released on November and December of last year.

Said employees will be now receiving said amounts after the mayor released with the SDO-Tabuk accounting office the total amount.

With the passage of the ordinance, teachers and non-teaching personnel of SDO – Tabuk City are to receive monthly assistance from the city logal government.

In releasing the amount, Estrañero expressed elation while explaining that he “believes teachers play a vital role in molding the City’s young children into better, more dynamic, and productive persons and leaders in the future.”

“Teachers play an important part in the lives of our children. They give them the gift of knowledge. All things that can be attained in life are built on the foundation of knowledge and education. Teachers give today’s youngsters the power of education, allowing them to have a better future,” he remarked.

“It’s a great responsibility to be in charge of influencing young brains. It is not an exaggeration to suggest that teachers have the ability to alter lives, and we all know how much they sacrifice in the process. As a result, while the help we’re offering them isn’t much, it’s something we can do to express how much we respect them and how grateful we are for guiding us to this point,” he added.
