The chilly December breeze can now be felt in the City of Pines.
Some residents, like Nanay Janet, are taking precautions to avoid catching a cold.
She mentions that getting sick also affects her earnings from selling flowers.
“I drink calamansi juice because it’s a good source of Vitamin C. Sometimes, I also bathe with warm water before going to work,” said Janet Navalta, resident.
According to the DOST PAGASA Baguio Synoptic Station, the temperature dropped to 15.2 degrees Celsius at 5:00 AM on Monday, December 16.
Larry Esperanza, Chief Meteorological Officer – DOST PAGASA Baguio Synoptic Station, stated, “We can expect temperatures to drop even further, with the coldest period typically being January to February next year. But this December, it will already start to get colder.”
This is due to the intensified northeast monsoon or amihan.
Currently, the lowest temperatures in the city are around 15 degrees Celsius, often recorded during the early morning.
However, aside from the chilly weather, isolated rain showers are still expected.
“We can still expect isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms, the shear line, and other weather systems affecting us,” Esperanza stated.
Meanwhile, tourists like Laura and Danica from Canada are enjoying their time in the city.
Li-Anne’s family also chose Baguio as their holiday destination to make the most of the season.
“It’s too hot back home in Ilocos. We prefer coming here in December because it’s cold,” she said.
The City Health Office advises the public to wear protective clothing to avoid illnesses caused by the cold weather.
