Two former assistant superintendents of Baguio changed places as school head with one taking over the Ifugao School Division Office of the Department of Education and another making a return to Baguio.

Assistant school district superintendent Soraya Faculo has been appointed officer in charge of the Ifugao SDO replacing Federico Martin, who will return to DepEd Baguio as its superintendent.

In the turnover ceremony Monday, August 9, during the start of the new school year, Faculo ferried from Abra where she is assistant superintendent to Lagawe to take over the seat vacated by Martin.

In a ceremony attended by Ifugao Gov. Johnny Dalipog, Lagawae mayor Martin Habawel, Jr. and Department of Education – Cordillera executives led by director Estela Carino, Faculo assumes office as the country joins the world in the celebration of the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples.

Classes, in blended form, also started today in all levels from pre-school to elementary, high school and senior high school.

Last Saturday, Martin was welcomed by Baguio mayor Benjamin Magalong prior the start of the new school year today.

Magalong pledged support to the returning Martin, who was Baguio school superintendent until 2019 when he was replaced by Marie Carolyn Verano, who retired last August 4.

He likewise urged DepEd Baguio officials to “intensify the implementation of the public and social health protocols, such as observance of physical distancing among teaching and non-teaching staff, regular disinfection in schools and officers, ensuring proper ventilation, and avoiding crowds lingering in confined places or eating in groups.”

Magalong also promised to expedite the vaccination of teachers and staff in the division.

Verano, meanwhile, left the teaching profession after 39 years in service first as school teacher in her hometown of Itogon, Benguet and served as school superintendent in Apayao, Kalinga, Benguet and recently, Baguio.

Faculo served as an assistant in the Baguio division before her assignment in Abra last school year and until her appointment new Ifugao district OIC.
