Fight Corps MMA last Saturday made a big splash when its four fighters practically making light works of their opponents as the team dominated the 10-fight card Northern Uprising Fight League at the PFVR Gym.
Tycho Nanasca started the ball rolling for Fight Corps as he came out in full force to register a technical knockout win over Team Wasalak’s Arnold Pitulan.
It was a no sweat affair for the BS Psychology senior at the Saint Louis University as he needed just three minutes and three seconds in the first round to send the referee calling the game over with Nanasca raining punches on the hapless foe.
“I made sure to get the center. It was what my coach (Nikko Tabora) told me before the fight,” said Nanasca, whi just came from his practicum, during a press conference turned celebration at Mines View Wednesday.
The win of Nanasca, a former kickboxer, saw his team mates dominate their respective opponents in the ensuing matches.
Frenzie Golocan later joined him in the win column by retiring Vergel Bayacsan in the 3:32 mark of the second round after the event doctor saw that latter unable to continue the fight.
This was followed by back to wins for Fight Corps’s last two fighters and both via rear naked chokes. Marcos Lampacan needed just seven minutes by submitting Jeffrey Kimpa-ay of Red Lion Gym.
The victory came at 2:02 mark of the second round for Lampacan, cousin of Team Bagsik and Philippine muay Thai team member Leeariel, who won medals in the last two Southeast Asiam Games and is now vying for a seat in the ONE Championship via the Warrior Series, where he is one of the favorites. Gerico Kiat-ong made it four in four for Fight Corps after he made Joshua Madegyem surrender in the 2:49 mark of the second round for the victory.
In other matches, Kurt Patting started the event with a TKO referee stoppage win at 2:37 mark of the second round over Mikko Camingawa of Santa Rosa City – Kafagway.
Jones Catalion of Evolutions Gym escaped with a split decision win on Mark Jason Vedana of Sipakan Sports Combat – JRA Fitness Hub from Cabanatuan City.
In the third match, Brave Hearts – Buyagan’s Philbert Juanito used armbar to submit Roldan Lingbanan of Kafagway MMA – Dojo Kaizen.
Christopher Manipon did not disappoint his coach, wushu sanda great and now University of Baguio wushu sanda coach Dare Malicdan, as he decided an Olongapo fighter who sounded like French novelist and existentialist – John Paul Sarte of Boot Camp Olongapo – via majority draw.
Evolution Gym’s Christian Manipon logged a rear naked choke victory by submitting John Philip Magarzo in the 3:29 mark of the third round.
Xavier Villanueva of Kafagway – MMA – Body Goals Gym needed just three minutes and seven seconds to end his game against Ayon Naranjo of Team Wasalak to conclude the 10-fight card. Pigeon Lobien
