The classic Filipino frozen cookie known as silvanas has earned a spot on the global culinary map.
In the recently released “Top 50 Best Cookies in the World” list by international food guide TasteAtlas on April 27, silvanas ranked 29th with a four-star rating—an impressive feat for this uniquely Filipino dessert.
Silvanas, often paired with coffee or served as dessert, is a sweet treat made with buttercream filling sandwiched between cashew-meringue wafers, usually coated in crushed cashew crumbs.
It is served cold, offering a light crunch that melts into a creamy, sweet experience, which many describe as “heaven in a bite” or “tiny bites of heaven.”
Originally inspired by the French cake dacquoise, silvanas evolved as a Filipino version of sans rival.
Local bakeries in Dumaguete and Cebu first created this dessert, and from there, it gained popularity across the Visayas region before making its way nationwide—and now internationally.
As its fame spreads beyond the country’s borders, silvanas continues to showcase the world-class quality of Filipino pastries.
