A house in Barangay Ambangao, Sabangan, Mountain Province was razed by a fire on the morning of June 15.
The cause of the blaze is still under investigation, but no injuries were reported.
According to Fire Officer Junie June Sigang of Sabangan Fire Station, by the time the family saw smoke and opened the door, the fire had already erupted. “There was smoke inside. When they opened the door, the fire just burst out. That’s why no one can pinpoint where it started,” he said.
The fire was reported at around 11 AM, but the remote location delayed the firefighters’ response.
“There are houses nearby, but the area isn’t very populated, and it was uphill, so our truck had a hard time getting there,” Sigang added.
The house, which was made of light materials, was quickly consumed by flames.
Fire out was declared at 11:50 AM.
The family was not home during the incident, and no one was injured.
Initial damage estimates placed the loss at around 30,000 pesos.
Sigang reminded residents to observe fire safety at home.
“Before leaving the house, unplug all unused appliances. Don’t leave food cooking unattended. Let’s stay alert to prevent fire accidents,” he advised.
This is the first reported fire incident in Sabangan for the year.
