Three individuals were injured after a fire broke out in Barangay Don Pedro, Malasiqui, Pangasinan, around 1:00 p.m. on April 6.
Footage shared online showed flames engulfing structures, followed by an explosion that prompted residents to flee or call for help.
According to Fire Inspector Kinber-Ann Combate of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Malasiqui, the fire involved two residential houses and one storage room. “We received the fire alarm around 1:05 p.m., and by the time we arrived, the fire was already large,” she said.
BFP’s initial investigation suggests that the explosion seen in the video was caused by flammable liquid stored in the burning storage room.
However, the specific substance has yet to be identified, as the investigation remains ongoing.
The fire reached second alarm status.
The three injured individuals were immediately given medical attention, with one sustaining third-degree burns.
That individual has since been discharged from the hospital.
The estimated damage caused by the fire is pegged at 300,000 pesos.
Firefighters officially declared the fire out at around 2:00 p.m.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the exact cause of the blaze, which marks the town’s first major fire incident this year.
