Former Southeast Asian Games marathon queen Christabel Martes is now a coach.
The 41-year old La Trinidad raised but Baguio resident Martes completed the 14 day World Athletics Coaches Education Learning System (CELS) Level 1 Philippine Edition which was concluded last Tuesday, December 15.
It was also the second time that the online coaching training was held worldwide and the first in the Area Development Center in Southeast Asia and South Asia. Martes is also one of the 12 qualified for level-2 trainings.
The online trainings lecturers were Anbarasu Subramaniam of the Sabaj Athletics Association, Maria Jeanette Obiena of the Philippine Athletics Track and Fields Association (Patafa) and former national coach Joseph Sy with International Trainer Tyne Artiaga Pantangco and the Patafa as assistants.
In her Facebook post on Tuesday, Martes said that she came from a wildcard to level 2 and thanked the Patafa for including her in the trainings.
Martes is a two time SEAG marathion champion and five time MILO Olympics marathon queen. She also holds the record in the 10,000 meter run of 34:40.3 which she set in the 2001 National Open.
Martes is a full time mom now and does coaching for elementary and high school students.
