Funk rock band P.O.T. makes return in Baguio, Elyu gigs

Two events in separate places, one on a tee clad mountain 5,000 feet high, the other is the sun kissed beaches 32 kilometers away will have one of the country’s biggest bands in the 90s as they bring their act this weekend after nearly two decades of absence.

P.O.T., which made a name alongside Wolfgang, to name a few, will be in Baguio and San Juan in La Union for POT or Pines Over Tides which part of their Northern Luzon Tour Part 1.

The Baguio side will be at Canto Bogchi Joint on Saturday. The 6PM show will have local bands Diaweh and the JR Oca Experience.

Canto is one of the more frequented mid-range restaurants in Baguio and famous for its baby back ribs but has since started accommodating bands for gigs.

On Sunday, P.O.T. will be at Charlie’s Hangar at Surf Hostel. The show that will start at 8PM will have seven bands including JR Oca Experience, J.O.E., TWP, Uela, Hey Moonshine, Xalbaje and Sinaplunk.

Founded in 1994, the group was fronted by the late Karl Roy who also fronted for several bands including Advent Call. In 1997, the band became popular with the release of “Yugyugan Na”, a 1977 hit of The Advisors.

In 2005, the band officially disbanded.

The funk rock band P.O.T. is now composed of original members Mally Paraguya on bass and guitarist Ian Umali. It is now fronted by Red dela Pena of Ojo Rojo and Harley Alarcon on drums and Reli de Vera of Sinosikat? on drums (for live sessions). Pigeon Lobien
